Hon'ble Justice Dr. T. Amarnath Goud

Elevated as a Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on 21st September, 2017. During his tenure of four years at the Telangana High Court, he disposed of 87,957 cases.

He was later transferred as a Judge of the High Court of Tripura and took oath on 28th October, 2021 and is working till date.

In recognition of his outstanding judicial acumen, he was honoured by the International Wonder Book of Records for exceptional achievement in judicial excellence. The citation acknowledged his extraordinary accomplishment of adjudicating 91,157 individual cases across the High Courts at Hyderabad and Tripura between 2017 and 2024, maintaining an impressive average of 109 disposal per day.

In recognition of his significant contributions to the field of law, his unwavering commitment to the principles of justice and his distinguished service to society, he was conferred Honorary Doctorate, the degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) during the Convocation of Maharaja Bir Bikram University Tripura, Agartala, held on 29th May, 2025. Justice Dr. T. Amarnath Goud positioned Tripura High Court and District Judiciary in the top of the list in the county. There are several incidents where Court is closed for no cases. Out of 91,671 cases decided, 99% of his Judgments stood unchallenged before Appellate Courts.

He also served as the Chairman of the Tripura High Court Legal Services Committee from 5th January, 2022 to 1st August, 2022. During this period, special emphasis was laid on ensuring that no accused or convict was deprived of effective legal assistance.

Since 30th June, 2022, he has been serving as the Executive Chairman of the Tripura State Legal Services Authority. During his tenure, numerous innovative schemes and initiatives have been conceptualised and implemented by the State Legal Services Authority to enhance access to justice. Produced a Documentary film on awareness program (concept, script & direction by Justice Dr. T. Amarnath Goud). Reduced huge pendency by conducting Lok Adalats effectively.

As a Chairman, Board of Governors, Tripura Judicial Academy conducted seminars and awareness programs and inaugurated Hostel Building.

Hon’ble Justice Dr. T. Amarnath Goud officiated as the Chief Justice (Acting) of the High Court of Tripura from 11th November, 2022 to 15th February, 2023, from 23rd February, 2023 to 16th April, 2023 and again from 17.07.2025 to 22.07.2025. During his tenure as Chief Justice (Acting), several path-breaking judicial and administrative initiatives were introduced and implemented. Many long pending works were completed.

Born on 1st March, 1965 in Secunderadad to Sri T. Krishna and Smt. Savitri, he completed his schooling at St. Patrick’s High School, Secunderabad and pursued his intermediate studies at Wesley Boys Junior College, Secunderabad. He obtained a B.Sc. degree from Arts and Science College, Secunderabad (affiliated with Osmania University, Hyderabad), and LL.B. from Shivaji Law College under Marathwada University, Maharashtra.

He was enrolled as an Advocate on 22nd September, 1990 with the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh and began his legal practice in the chambers of Hon’ble Justice V. Eswaraiah (then an Advocate). He actively practiced in civil, criminal, constitutional and other branches of law and served as Standing Counsel for the Nalgonda District Co-operative Central Bank Limited. He was appointed by the Hon’ble High Court as an Arbitrator, Amicus Curiae and Advocate Commissioner in several cases and also served as a Panel Lawyer for the A.P. High Court Legal Services Committee.

He has held various positions in the Andhra Pradesh High Court Advocates’ Bar Association, Hyderabad, including Vice President, Joint Secretary, Treasurer and Executive Committee Member. He also served as the Honorary President of the Human Rights Protection Organisation, Hyderabad.

In addition to his legal and judicial responsibilities, he has been a dedicated member of Lions Clubs International (Lions Club of Secunderabad Millennium, District 320C) for over 25 years, serving in various capacities including Region Chairperson, Zonal Chairperson and District Chairperson. He is also a Trustee of the Heart and Eye Foundation and Lions Bhawan, Hyderabad.

Justice Dr. T. Amarnath Goud hails from a family with a strong philanthropic legacy. His grandfather, late T. Anjaiah Goud, owner of Paradise Theatre in Secunderabad, made several public contributions, including donating land for a burial ground at Kavadiguda, behind Hotel Marriott, Hyderabad, and gifting a Panchaloha statue of Mahatma Gandhi at M.G. Road, Secunderabad which was unveiled by the then Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1951.
